Pre-surgical Evaluations
Pre-surgical psychological evaluations are required by health insurance carriers prior to many elective surgical procedures.
CONSULTATION FOR IMPLANT TRIALS & BARIATRIC PROCEDURES
Why did my physician refer me to a psychologist when there is a surgical plan of care?
Surgical procedures all involve a protocol, or a standard of care. Just as your physician performs diagnostic studies of your spine, the insurance company requires a diagnostic evaluation of your mental readiness for some types of surgery. They will not approve a stimulator trial or bariatric surgery without psychological clearance.
What will happen in my appointment with Dr. Adams?
This appointment is a one-time evaluation and not a recommendation for care. After you call to schedule an appointment, you will receive instructions and a map with directions to our office.
Your appointment will last ~ 3 hours.
This diagnostic interview provides Dr. Adams with information about your background, support system, medication, medical and mental health history.
A series of diagnostic tests will be administered. This is required by the insurance company. The results provide information about depression, physical symptoms, and anxiety.
You may also complete several shorter forms that ask questions about your pain, the relief you do or do not receive from medication, and any other problems that might be troubling you.
Who will read this report?
